Privacy
The short version: this site collects your email address only if you sign up to the newsletter or email me. There are no cookies, no ad trackers and no social media pixels, and your data is never sold.
Who I am
This site is run by William Redwood (writing as Billy Redwood), who is responsible for your data under UK data protection law. Contact me at hello@iambillyredwood.com.
The newsletter
- What: your email address, and when and how you signed up and confirmed (so I can show you agreed to it).
- Why: to send you an email asking you to confirm, then the fortnightly newsletter and one welcome email when you join. That’s all it’s used for. It isn’t sold or shared for anyone else’s marketing.
- Lawful basis: your consent, given when you subscribe. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Where it’s stored: with Resend, the email service that sends the newsletter on my behalf.
- How long: until you unsubscribe. After that, your address may be kept as a record that you opted out, so you aren’t emailed again by mistake. Ask and I’ll delete it completely.
You’re only added to the list once you click the link in the confirmation email. If you don’t, nothing is saved to the list. Resend keeps a short-lived log of the confirmation email it sent, as it does for every email.
Every newsletter and welcome email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and it works straight away. I don’t track whether you open emails or click links in them.
Emailing me
If you email hello@iambillyredwood.com, I keep your message and email address so I can reply. Messages are received through Resend. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in answering you. I delete them when they’re no longer needed, and at most two years after we last spoke.
Visiting the site
The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel briefly logs technical details of each visit, such as your IP address and browser, to run the site and keep it secure. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in a working, secure site.
Visits are counted with Vercel Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn’t identify you personally. Fonts are served from this site, not from Google.
Where your data goes
Resend and Vercel are US companies, so your data may be stored or processed in the United States. They act only on my instructions and protect transfers with the safeguards UK law requires: the UK–US data bridge or the UK’s approved contract terms.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask me to:
- show you the data I hold about you and send you a copy
- correct it if it’s wrong
- delete it
- stop or limit using it, or object to how it’s used
- give it to you in a format you can take elsewhere
Email hello@iambillyredwood.com to do any of these. I’ll reply within one month. There’s no charge.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how your data has been handled, please email hello@iambillyredwood.com first and I’ll look into it. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, I’ll say so in the newsletter.
